We have had a number of inquiries in recent weeks about ESOS (the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) and whether it ‘applies to my business’. Here is a brief overview of who it effects and how we at Revitaglaze can work with those that are.

ESOS

The Energy Savings Opportunity scheme is the UK Government’s response to the Energy Audits Article of the EU energy Efficiency Directive. Launched in 2014 and run by the environment Agency, it is a mandatory energy assessment and energy savings identification scheme aimed at large organisations operating in the UK.

Criteria

Organisations with either more than 250 employees, or an annual turnover in excess of £39M, are considered large undertakings and must comply with ESOS. This criteria is set to include between 7,500 and 10,000 large organisations. Public sector organisations and SME’s are not included in the scheme.

Compliance

Those organisations that are effected are required to measure at least 90% of their energy consumption from buildings, transport and industrial process. In order to achieve compliance organisations must track at least 12 months worth of energy data, identify energy efficiency measures and evaluate their potential cost and savings. The scheme, which runs in 4 year cycles commenced at the end of 2015.

The Revitaglaze Solution

Specifying high performance window film (solar film) as part of an ESOS audit can save money and meet requirements to consider materials with low life cycle costs. As an approved installer of the industry’s leading performance window films, payback is typically in less than 5 years. Retrofitting solar film can help extend the life of existing window systems at a fraction of the cost of installing new, high-performance double glazing.

Window film can help save energy and reduce carbon emissions whilst improving comfort and staff productivity. The reduction in solar heat gain during the summer for example reduces the strain on HVAC systems. this can help reduce capital and operational costs of plant, and free up valuable building space for other purposes.

Another benefit to installing solar film in buildings where it is not cost-effective or not possible to replace existing glazing, is that it is a genuinely sustainable retrofit solution. Revitaglaze has worked in a number of buildings, namely listed and non listed historic buildings, that are unable to make changes to their existing systems but are required to meet energy efficiency standards. By applying a suitable film, bespoke to the individual requirements of each project, Revitaglaze were able to provide a cost effective solution.
